Dieser Beitrag wurde zuerst als Antwort auf der Frage-und-Antwort-Plattform Quora veröffentlicht. Er wurde mit allen Tipp- oder Rechtschreibfehlern ins Blog übernommen.
Quora ist eine recht interessante Plattform. Vor allem, weil man durch eine Semi-Anonymität (man sieht nicht auf den ersten Blick wer genau eine Frage gestellt hat, nur mit etwas Aufwand) recht ungefiltert mitbekommt, was Menschen bewegt.
Dabei entdeckt man mit der Zeit Muster. Eines der Muster berührt Fragen der Geschichte und auch immer wieder der Medizingeschichte. Nämlich die implizite Annahme, dass gewisse Entwicklungen lediglich Auswüchse der modernen Gesellschaft seien und in früheren — einfacheren — Zeiten, nicht vorgekommen seien.
Doch nur, weil wir von der humoralen Medizin, die Krankheiten als Folge von unausgeglichenen „Säften“ definiert, weggekommen sind, heißt es nicht, dass man alles über den Haufen werfen sollte, was die Geschichte der Medizin zu bieten hat.
Aber zur Antwort:
Hat man sich vor 50 Jahren auch bereits Gedanken um gesunde Ernährung gemacht?
Sogar schon der Sonnenkönig Ludwig der XIV bekam von seinen Ärzten, wegen seiner durch einen opulenten Lebensstil entstandenen Krankheiten, maßvolle Ernährung und einen Verzicht auf Fleisch nahegelegt.
Auch was wir an überlieferten Texten großer griechischer und römischer Ärzte der Antike und ihrer arabischen Nachfolger kennen, enthält ganze Kapitel zur Ernährung und teils sogar zu Sport.
Der Zusammenhang zwischen Gesundheit und Lebensstil ist also schon sehr lange bekannt und begleitet die Menschheit ebenso als Thema, wie auch unser Bedürfnis dennoch über die Stränge zu schlagen.
